Global ingredient company Kemin Industries announced it will open a new site in Verona, Missouri. The new facility will manufacture Proteus®, a patented line of clean label functional proteins that Kemin recently added to its portfolio through the acquisition of Proteus Industries.

The new 38,000-square-foot state-of-the-art production plant is a $40 million investment. Once operational - in March 2023 - it will employ more than 30 full-time workers in the Verona community. The site will have an initial capacity of creating applications for more than 100 billion pounds of meat, poultry and protein-based formulations.

“Our Proteus line is in high demand with food processors of protein-based products," said President and CEO Chris Nelson. "Proteus products improve yield, nutrition and quality of functional foods."

Kemin’s presence in Missouri started in 2011, when Kemin Nutrisurance, the company's pet food and rendering technologies business unit, opened its first manufacturing facility in the region. Today, Kemin has two locations in Missouri: the existing facility in Verona (located about two miles from the new one), and another in Sarcoxie – employing 60 area residents.
